It also describes the method employed to evaluate the corrosivity of the test-cabinet environment. It does not specify the dimensions or types of test specimens, the exposure period to be used for a particular product, or the interpretation of results. Such details are provided in the appropriate product specifications. The salt spray tests are particularly useful for detecting discontinuities, such as pores and other defects in certain metallic, organic, anodic oxide and conversion coatings. The neutral salt spray test (NSS) is the test method in which a neutral 5 % sodium chloride solution is atomized under a controlled environment. It particularly applies to: — metals and their alloys, — metallic coatings (anodic and cathodic), — conversion coatings, — anodic oxide coatings, and — organic coatings on metallic materials. The acetic acid salt spray (AASS) test is the test method in which an acidified 5 % sodium chloride solution with the addition of glacial acetic acid is atomized under a controlled environment. It is especially useful for testing decorative coatings of copper + nickel + chromium, or nickel + chromium. It has also been found suitable for testing anodic and organic coatings on aluminum. The copper-accelerated acetic acid salt spray test (CASS) is the test method in which an acidified 5 % sodium chloride solution with the addition of copper chloride and glacial acetic acid is atomized under a controlled environment. It is useful for testing decorative coatings of copper + nickel + chromium, or nickel + chromium. It has also been found suitable for testing anodic and organic coatings on aluminum. The salt spray methods are all suitable for checking that the comparative quality of a metallic material, with or without corrosion protection, is maintained. They are not intended to be used for comparative testing as a means of ranking different materials relative to each other with respect to corrosion resistance or as means of predicting long-term corrosion resistance of the tested material. -

This international standard is applicable to the laboratory determination of triaxial shear strength under compression loading within the scope of geotechnical investigations. The cylindrical specimen, which may comprise undisturbed, re-compacted, remoulded or reconstituted soil, is subjected to an isotropic or an anisotropic stress under drained conditions and thereafter is sheared under undrained or drained conditions. The test allows the determination of shear strength, stress-strain relationships and effective stress paths. All stresses and strains are denoted as positive numerical values in compression. Special procedures such as: a) tests with lubricated ends; b) multi-stage tests; c) tests with zero lateral strain (K0) consolidation; d) tests with local measurement of strain or local measurement of pore pressure; e) tests without rubber membranes; f) extension tests; e) shearing where cell pressure varies; h) shearing at constant volume are not fully covered in this standard procedure. However, these specific tests may refer to general procedures described in this standard. NOTE – This document fulfils the requirements of consolidated triaxial compression tests for geotechnical investigation and testing in accordance with EN 1997-1 and EN 1997-2.

In service, internal gears can experience failure modes other than tooth bending fatigue, i.e. fractures starting at the root diameter and progressing radially outward. This document does not provide adequate safety against failure modes other than tooth bending fatigue. All load influences on the tooth root stress are included in so far as they are the result of loads transmitted by the gears and in so far as they can be evaluated quantitatively. This document includes procedures based on testing and theoretical studies such as those of Hirt[11], Strasser[14] and Brossmann[10]. The results are in good agreement with other methods (References [5], [6], [7] and [12]). The given formulae are valid for spur and helical gears with tooth profiles in accordance with the basic rack standardized in ISO 53. They can also be used for teeth conjugate to other basic racks if the virtual contact ratio εαn is less than 2,5. The load capacity determined on the basis of permissible bending stress is termed “tooth bending strength”.
